Sports prosecutors launch investigation into media reports linked to referee’s burned house

Sports prosecutors launched an investigation into several press reports published ahead of the suspected arson attack against the house of a football referee, the prosecution said in an announcement on Friday.

Chief prosecutor Ilias Zagoreos ordered an initial investigation into possible incitement to commit crimes through reports in the sport press, both print and online. The suspected arson attack prompted the indefinite suspension of all league games in Greece.

According to sources, the investigation will first focus on reports which described the referee’s summer house in Halkidiki as a “mansion” and gave details of its whereabouts.
