“I feel we are very close to freedom. Of course, it is still early to be discussing the terms and conditions on which we could, potentially, head out to celebrate Easter and have a different Easter to last year. The truth is that we now have more weapons,” State Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis said to Open TV on Tuesday.
“Our two big weapons are the vaccinations and self tests,” he noted, explaining that “we are on the verge of opening for a big category of our compatriots, those suffering of underlying diseases, who are estimated at approximately 800,000. Next week the vaccination platform for ages 50-59 will open and we estimate that we will have completed 3.0 to 3.5 million vaccinations in May so that a significant wall of immunity will have been built”.
Gerapetritis emphasised the importance of the self tests, adding that from Thursday more self tests will be available for other categories of citizens and workers, in addition to highschool students and teachers. “We estimate that they will be around 900,000. We are talking about workers in the private and public sector, such as the retail market, justice, outdoor food and drinks services, businesses, banks and others”.
