Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier expressed his certainty on Friday that there will be a deal on Greece at the Eurogroup meeting on June 15, during a joint press conference with Greek counterpart Prokopis Pavlopoulos who is on an official visit to Berlin.
Steinmeier said he believed existing differences will be overcome and a common solution will be found.
On his side, Pavlopoulos said that Greece has fully complied with its obligations and asks for its partners to do the same, abiding to the principle of solidarity. “Our partners should consider what the Greek people deserve and, be certain Mr. President that our people will reciprocate,” he said.
He also noted that the commitment to provide debt relief to Greece should not be hindered by the election campaign in Germany, adding the country should not focus on the political cost of the decision.
