Stoltenberg: FYROM cannot join NATO without applying name agreement

The only way for FYROM to be included in NATO is by completely applying the name agreement, reiterated NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference in Brussels, Stoltenberg said that “we all monitored carefully the consultative referendum on Sunday in FYROM.” He added that he spoke on Monday with FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and that they will remain in close communication.

The NATO chief welcomed the yes vote saying that the majority voted in favour of the agreements but added that the participation was below expectations.

“The referendum was of a consultative nature and the necessary constitutional changes must be made in parliament,” he added.
