Student arrested for assault on Professor Angelos Syrigos

A 25-year-old student was arrested and led before a public prosecutor on Thursday, charged with Wednesday’s attack on Panteion University professor Angelos Syrigos outside the gates of the university.

The suspect is enrolled in the university’s psychology department and was among a group that attacked Syrigos and hit him over the head when he accosted them for writing graffiti. The prosecutor pressed charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm, verbal abuse and threat, indicting the 25-year-old to stand trial.

Syrigos, an associate professor of international law and foreign policy, was admitted to the Asklipiio Hospital in Voula after the attack.
