A 27-year-old Portuguese defender playing for a top-ranking Greek football team in the Super League was indicted for the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl on Monday after he was arrested and brought before a public prosecutor.
Greek authorities later on Monday arrested a 40-year-old Nigerian man accused of the same offence, after seeking him on a warrant. He will appear before a prosecutor on Tuesday.
The footballer will now appear before an examining magistrate on Tuesday, while his lawyer said that he denies the charges against him and said that he was unaware of the girl’s age.
The player was arrested on Sunday by police officers in the Attica Security Protection of Minors Department after the girl reported that he had lured her back to his house and raped her, together with the Nigerian.
According to the girl, the incident happened in the early hours of August 28 when she met the well-known football player in a club.
