SYRIZA accuses Mitsotakis of ‘politically protecting’ arbitrary police action

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of politically protecting incidents of arbitrary use of force by the police, citing the recent clashes between police and civilians in the Athens district of Nea Smyrni.

“For as long as Mitsotakis is losing control of the pandemic, he will continue to attack society,” said the announcement, and concluded: “Mitsotakis has not only forgotten his promises for the security of citizens, which have been replaced with unprecedented police arbitrariness against them, but he also offers political protection, with ruling New Democracy’s parliamentary spokesperson Thanos Plevris declaring his willingness to represent the police officers of Nea Smyrni as their lawyer.”
