SYRIZA: Gov’t should revoke longer curfew on weekends

The government should revoke the curfew starting at 18:00 on weekends in the Attica, Thessaloniki and Chalkidiki areas, SYRIZA reiterated on Saturday.

The main opposition party was referring to the coronavirus-related curfew restrictions which begin in those areas at 18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays instead of at 21:00-05:00 on Monday-Friday. The longer curfew was announced on February 5 through the end of the month and allows only three exceptions: health reasons, work reasons, and a short walk with a pet.

Terming the decision “a parody of a measure”, the party charged that it does not restrict the dispersion of disease. “On the contrary, it burdens further citizens who are served at super markets on a shorter shift, resulting in endless lines on sidewalks,” as there is a limited number of customers allowed in at any time.

The government “completely ignores the daily lives of citizens” and refuses to “recognize its mistake,” the main opposition said, demanding it “face reality, at last.”
