Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras on Monday visited Attiko Hospital, a referral hospital for coronavirus in Athens, accompanied by SYRIZA MP and the party’s head of health policy, Andreas Xanthos.
Tsipras was briefed on the staff’s efforts to contain the virus. “I came to learn more about your efforts and to calso ongratulate and thank the staff, mostly the nurses and the doctors that are fighting a very difficult battle to protect the human lives, and I hope they are fighting it with the support of all, not only in words but also in actions,” said Tsipras.
The director of the hospital, Spyros Apostolopoulos, said that there are currently 30 patients with coronavirus being treated in the hospital, seven of them in ICUs.
Tsipras also had the opportunity to talk with doctors and nursing staff, who underlined the need for immediate support of the National Health System with the hirings of more doctors and nurses.
