SYRIZA MEP Stelios Kouloglou submitted a question to the European Commission on Wednesday asking what action it will take to investigate and prevent cases such as the alleged bribery probe into Swiss drug maker Novartis.
Novartis is being investigated in Greece for allegedly bribing doctors and public officials to boost prescriptions and company sales. Corruption prosecutors raided the company offices in Athens to gather evidence relating to the case.
“How does the Commission intend to act in order to investigate and prevent similar cases of corruption, unfair competition and manipulation of the domestic market at a member-state and EU level? And what specific measures does it intend to take to protect whistleblowers and any aspiring citizen who reveals unfair and illegal corporate practices at EU level?” the question says.
