Syriza supports exploratory talks with Turkey, wants briefing on gov’t stance

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance supports exploratory talks with Turkey, the main opposition said on Monday, “despite the fact that the country is entering such talks without a clear strategic plan.”

In a statement, Syriza said that it also expects a detailed briefing by the government “on the strategy Greece plans to follow, especially now that it has a picture of the Turkish stance.”

It asked in particular whether “Turkey raised issues of so-called gray zones, so-called demilitarization [of islands] and so-called jurisdiction areas of search and rescue,” and how the Greek delegation responded.

In addition, it said it wanted to know the stance by Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias at the ministers’ council in the EU on the same day, “in terms of the future of Greek-Turkish relations.”
