SYRIZA’s Achtsioglou: The government promoting environment that favours employer illegalities

“Not only does the government not want the protection of workers and the regulation of the labour market, but it is actively promoting a cannibalistic system [leading to a] labour jungle,” main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance head of labour issues Effie Achtsioglou said on Tuesday.

“With relentless dedication, it has literally dismantled almost all the work done by SYRIZA for the protection of workers and the regulation of the labour market,” she added.

Regarding the draft law for the “Reform of the regulatory framework of public procurement” that the government unveiled for public consultation, she said that it abolished yet another of SYRIZA’s regulations, which excluded companies that committed serious violations of labour law from having access to public money via public-sector contracts.

She accused the government of creating a favourable environment for employers to break the law and eliminate workers’ rights, with legislation that “acts like a steam-roller, crushing every labour conquest in its passing”.
