Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance MP George Katrougalos on Thursday underlined that the prime minister must demand and succeed in getting the European Union to impose sanctions on Turkey. He also called for the immediate extension of Greece’s territorial waters south and east of Crete to 12 nautical miles. Katrougalos made the statements after being briefed by Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and Turkey’s illegal activity.
“It is no longer a time for words but for actions. Turkish belligerence is escalating and a clear message must be sent that fait accomplis and provocations will not be tolerated,” Katrougalos added. He also referred to the incident with the government aircraft that brought Nikos Dendias from Baghdad to Athens on Wednesday.
“Νοw is the time for a national effort, which must be based on a specific strategy and not a lack of strategy or a compass,” concluded Katrougalos.
