Talks at a staff-level agreement between the Labour ministry and the representatives of the institutions focused on mass layoffs and collective negotiations, ministry sources said on Monday evening.

According to the sources, the ministry attaches great importance to the meetings Minister Efi Achtsioglou will hold in the coming days, starting on Tuesday with EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs Pierre Moscovici, but also in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday, with the leaders and members of the European Parliament’s political groups.

The aim of these meetings is to stress anew that Greece cannot deviate of the European acquis in the crucial area of labour relations. The minister’s schedule in Brussels is as follows:

Wednesday

15.00-15.45: Ska Keller (vice-chair of the group of Greens/European Free Alliance) and Ernest Urtasun (Greens MEP)

16.00-16.30: Georgi Pirinski (MEP with Party of European Socialists (PES))

18.00-19.00: Members of the European Left (GUE/NGL) who participate in the European Parliament’s Committee on
Employment and Social Affairs

19.00-20.00: SYRIZA MEPs

Thursday

09.30-10.00: Gabi Zimmer (head of the GUE/NGL parliamentary group)
