Tests on air pollution levels in eastern Attica after summer fires are clear

Initial tests conducted on air pollution levels in eastern Attica, where the devastating fires took place, show no results for concern, said the National Observatory of Athens on Monday.

The observatory is continuing its collection and analysis of samples from the ground and the air in a bid to detect whether there have been any harmful substances left behind by the blazes, such as heavy metals or polyaromatic hydrocarbons.

The observatory will publish a detailed announcement when the first sets of complete results are expected in about 15 days.

Tests will also be held in the area of Kineta, where fires also took place over the summer.
