The government must leave now, SYRIZA’s Iliopoulos says

“This government must leave. And it must leave now,” main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nassos Iliopoulos said on Thursday in an interview with Kriti TV, after the motion of censure submitted by party leader Alexis Tsipras against the government.

“What happened in the last few days was just the drop that made the glass overflow,” Iliopoulos said, adding that it “showed a recurring pattern”. “The week before the severe weather conditions, for five days we were being told that the state mechanism is fully ready and [then] we saw chaos, we experienced a fiasco,” he said.

According to the spokesperson, the chaos was not confined to Attiki Odos but also affected other major roads.

Another reason why the government must leave, he asserted, is because it has completely failed in managing the pandemic, as deaths in Greece were now at “twice the EU average as a proportion of its population”.
