The shift to renewable energy resources is a one way road, Stathakis says

The shift to renewable energy resources (RES) is a one way road, Environment and Energy Minister Giorgos Stathakis said in a conference held on Saturday in Thessaloniki.

“We are moving on to a new support mechanism through competitive procedures that aligns Greece with the Community framework but is also tailored to the particular needs of the country,” Stathakis said and estimated that the new mechanism would attract investments of more than 2.5 billion euros.

He said that the shift to renewable energy resources will take place gradually, as the increase in energy production in the coming years will come exclusively from RES, an objective clearly reflected in the national long-term energy plan, drafted by the National Commission for Energy and Climate.
