Thousands of revelers flood Patras’ streets for Carnival’s night parade

More than 30,000 participants took to the streets of Patras on Friday evening to participate in the western port-city’s night Carnival march that precedes the main parade on Sunday.

Celebrations kicked off shortly after 18:30 with the Carnival King leading the parade, followed by the Carnival Queen and other municipal floats. The group is followed by 126 teams participating in the “treasure hunt”, dressed up in colourful costumes inspired by fairy tales, daily life and, of course, politics.

Revelers are lining the sidewalks of Corinthou Street and Aghios Georgios Square to admire the Carnival crews and dance to the music blasting from the speakers placed around the main streets. The celebrations and parties will continue all night and culminate on Sunday when the main show will start at 14:00 and conclude with the closing ceremony at 21:00 at Aghios Nikolaos dock.

Similar celebrations and dress up parties are taking place throughout Greece including the capital, where locals held a “Zombie parade” in the city center.
