Tourism minister, U.S. Ambassador Pyatt discuss cooperation in tourism

Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis met with U.S. Ambassador in Athens Geoffrey Pyatt at the ministry on Thursday.

The two officials discussed issues such as the promotion of direct air links between Greece and the U.S. so as to increase the number of American tourists coming to Greece and attracting major film productions to shoot on location.

The minister referred to a strategic plan for the further development of tourist relations through the strengthening of special types of alternative tourism, such as scuba diving, where Greek seas offer a wealth of marine environments for exploration.

A cooperation proposal with Google for the digital promotion of the Greek tourism was also discussed.

The U.S. ambassador referred to the importance of Astypalea for tourism, as the first smoke-free island worldwide, as well the keen interest of U.S. enterprises to invest in tourist infrastructure in Greece.
