Trade union groups hold protest marches against e-auctions in Athens

Protest marches against e-auctions were organised by various trade union factions in central Athens on Wednesday.

A march by the Communist Party-affiliated trade union group PAME started in Omonia and head toward the finance ministry, demanding legal protection for working-class homes and no confiscation of working-class properties to cover debts to the state and social insurance funds.

At the same time, a separate march by the civil servants’ union federation ADEDY, activists opposed to e-auctions and leftist parties not elected to Parliament were marching to the finance ministry from Korai Square. Here, again, the demand was the prevention of auctions targeting working-class households or small- and medium-sized enterprises, real protection for lower-income households, and the abolition laws criminalising anti-auction activism.
