Travellers flock to the ports of Attica for last-minute holidays to the islands

City residents made their last big exodus of the summer for the islands over the weekend of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary on Saturday, as the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio in Attica saw high numbers of passengers.

Travellers have to be at the ship’s docking station an hour earlier, and present either a certificate of completed vaccination or proof of a negative coronavirus test in order to board. They must also have filled in online a statement of health, as posted on the Shipping Ministry’s web page.
According to travel agencies, destinations with the highest occupancy rates are on the Cycladic Islands.

For Saturday, a total of 24 departures are scheduled for Piraeus for the islands and 18 for the nearby Argosaronic Gulf islands, in addition to 12 from Rafina and 9 from Lavrio (both on the eastern seaboard).

On Friday (Aug. 13), 28 sailings took place for the Aegean Sea (24,556 passengers), 39 for the Argosaronic Gulf (6,776 passengers), 16 from Rafina (6,924) and 11 from Lavrio (2,964).
