Tsakalotos on Spanish elections: Progressive forces must stand against far-Right

The heavy losses suffered by Spain’s conservative People’s Party (PP) in the April 28 national election and the far-Right VOX party’s parliamentary entry with 24 deputies was the subject of Monday tweets by Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, who called the People’s Party electoral performance “the first ‘success’ of the Manfred Weber-Kyriakos Mitsotakis alliance: the worst result in its history,” adding how he believes Southern Europe has abandoned neoliberalism and the European policies that “brought us where we are today,” Tsakalotos wrote.

In a second tweet, the Finance Minister referred to the rise of the Spanish far-Right as a negative development and underlined that this political phenomenon can be dealt with more effectively if “progressive political forces provide people with a political way-out, an ideological outlet,” said Tsakalotos.
