French President Emmanuel Macron expressed satisfaction with the June 15 Eurogroup’s decision on Greece during a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of the European Council on Thursday.
Tsipras later posted comments and photographs of the meeting on his @PrimeministerGR Twitter account, including one of himself, Macron and Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades talking together. In his tweet, Tsipras said he had “an opportunity to speak with the French President Emm. Macron about the results of the recent Eurogroup and about developments in the Cyprus issue, together with Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.”
Sources reporting on the meeting said Macron had spoken of “a very good result” and that Tsipras had thanked the French president for his support.
“We aren’t done yet but the path has been opened,” Macron was quoted as saying, while Tsipras highlighted the need to “proceed together with cautious steps”.
During their discussion, Macron also expressed a desire to visit Greece and they agreed to stay in contact in order to find the best possible time, so that the visit brings about the best possible result.
