Tsipras at PES meeting: ‘A lot more needs to be done to exit current crises’

The EU Recovery Fund, the suspension of the Stability & Growth Pact and the new ‘Green Deal’ are all important steps taken in the last year, said SYRIZA Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras at the preparatory meeting of the Party of European Socialists (PES) in Brussels on Thursday.

“A lot more needs to be done, however, to see us exiting this period’s multiple crises,” he added.

Greece’s main opposition party leader said that “the crucial debate in Europe is whether the pandemic is a shock that will lead us to change the modus operandi, or a mere break that will see a return to policies that have led to multiple crises.”

The role of progressive Europeans forces “is to launch – collectively and assertively – the debate on the future of Europe, boldly and with confidence, for sustainable development and for social justice and rights against inequalities,” he underlined.
