Tsipras calls on PM to focus on solutions for the pandemic, ‘rather than PR’

Despite the fact Greece is in its fifth month of a lockdown, the situation at the National Health System is “desperate, perhaps at its worst since the outbreak of the pandemic,” SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras said on Tuesday.

In a message on social media, Tsipras called on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to “stop the communications management of the pandemic, and focus on the tough path of finding substantial solutions.”

The main opposition leader charged that “hospitals are over capacity and dozens of fellow-citizens are intubated and waiting for a bed in an ICU,” adding that “thousands of surgeries are being cancelled, putting patients with serious disorders in danger.” He said that the government should requisition private Covid-free clinics, and said there is still no reliable picture of the coronavirus’ dispersal a year after the outbreak.
