Main opposition SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras spoke on the phone with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev and congratulated him on becoming a member of the NATO as well as on the start of the negotiations for North Macedonia’s accession to the EU, SYRIZA sources said.
Tsipras congratulated Zaev adding that nobody would believe them, Nikos Kotzias or Nikola Dimitrov, if they had said three years ago that all these would happen. “That in an EU in a deep crisis where nationalism dominates, the message of stability, mutual respect and hope would come from the Balkans and from these countries’ progressive forces”, the same sources said.
Tsipras and Zaev underlined that the developments in the area are even more important now that the major problem is the rallying against the pandemic. The same sources said that on his part, Zaev pointed out the importance of his country’s steps for bilateral relations in the region and in Europe. He also said that the two countries’ progressive forces are an example for Europe, especially in these difficult times.
