Tsipras: Government attempts to hide and sugarcoat the reality

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras referred to “failure of a state that could not prevent a huge disaster” at a press conference on Tuesday on the wildfires and characterised ‘a crime’ the government’s responsibility that ignored all warnings.

“The country is experiencing a major disaster. We all owe, and first of all the government, to see in the eyes the tragedy and to face the reasons” he said opening his speech.

Tsipras tabled seven proposals for a ‘national reconstruction plan’ and urged the government to take initiative for the implementation of the plan in agreement with the opposition parties and the scientific bodies.

He accused that government of “attempting to hide and sugarcoat the reality” noting that SYRIZA’s responsibility as main opposition is the obligation “to contribute in the healing of the wounds, the shielding of the country in order not to experience again such a huge tragedy”.
