Tsipras: ‘Government has given up on trying to deal with the coronavirus pandemic’

SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance party leader Alexis Tsipras said the government has given up on trying to deal effectively with the coronavirus pandemic, in a post on social media.

The main opposition leader also pointed out that a small scientific commission should be set up, “comprising broad-appeal personalities, who would propose measures that all people can accept, without the emphasis being on the political costs.”

The government’s only priority right now seems to be “saying things that are accepted by the predominantly far-right antivaxxers’ movement,” he stressed.

The real problem, he said, is not the unvaccinated people: “A 14 pct of intubated Covid-19 patients are fully vaccinated. And we do not even know what the corresponding percentage of vaccinated patients treated in Covid clinics really is.”

“Turning all the hospitals in the country into Covid hospitals is expected to burden thousands of patients suffering from other diseases, and further increase excessive mortality, of both vaccinated and unvaccinated people,” Tsipras noted.
