Tsipras: Report on war reparations to be ready before end of the year

Greece’s claim for reparations from Germany for actions during World War II “is a historical obligation to those who died and to future generations,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said Wednesday on Crete.

The prime minister was visiting western Crete and made his statements while laying a wreath at Kandanos, a village razed by the German army after the resistance of residents.

In comments at Kandanos’ mayoral hall, Tsipras said, “We will receive the report on Greece’s claims before the end of the year and it will then be tabled in the Parliament plenum by the end of the year, initiating further actions with the greatest possible consensus of all political forces.”
