Tsipras to Mitsotakis: Remove Culture minister, apologize to Greek people

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis should remove Culture Minister Lina Mendoni from her post, SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras insisted on Monday, following the arrest over the weekend of former National Theater director and actor Dimitris Lignadis over charges of serial rape of minors.

“For more than 20 days, Greece is experiencing shocking revelations, a huge crime related to rapes of minors and possibly a trafficking and pederasty ring,” Tsipras said in a statement, “and Mr. Mitsotakis bears a heavy political responsibility for this. It would be best for the country to put aside communication ploys.”

Tsipras added that he should “remove Ms. Mendoni from her ministerial duties and apologize to the victims and the Greek people for the mistakes and the delays of his government, assuming his share of political responsibility.”
