TV channels have paid around 90 mln euros since 2015, Digital Policy Min Pappas says

The tender for the TV licences will soon be announced, Digital Policy Minister Nikos Pappas said in an article published in “Dimokratia” newspaper.

“The fact that the licencing procedure has not yet been concluded does not mean that the channels continue to not pay,” he said and added: “According to the figures of the independent authority for public revenues, TV channels have paid around 90 million euros since 2015 for frequency fees and TV advertising tax – a tax that, despite voting for it, previous governments insistently refused to demand.”

Referring to the process, he pointed out that the starting price will be 35 million euros for each of the seven licenses to be auctioned, “so that the final revenue for the State will not fall short of the impressive price that resulted from last year’s procedure. In brief, the Greek National Council for Radio and Television (ESR) set the starting price equal to the amount secured in the August 2016 tender.”
