Twenty seven children refugees start school at Nikea

Twenty seven children refugees from the camp of Schisto were welcomed with thunderous applause by their new teachers, fellow students and local residents on their first day at the 15th elementary school of Nikea on Tuesday. According to the education ministry’s plan, the children will be taught at their designated classroom until 18:00.

“The ministry of education is implementing fully the program designed for the gradual integration of all refugee children in the school system,” the ministry’s general secretary, Yiannis Pandis, said after he welcomed the children, adding the nationwide program will be completed by the end of next week.

He also reiterated that all children sent to school have been vaccinated and that he is cooperating with the ministry of health which gives the “green light” to send new kids to school.
