Two man arrested for migrant trafficking in northern Greece

Two men aged 44 and 54 years old, respectively, have been arrested and will appear before a public prosecutor for attempting to smuggle 20 people into Greece without documents permitting their entry into the country, police said on Saturday.

According to a police announcement, they were intercepted on the old Thessaloniki-Kavala national road when they failed to comply with a signal to pull over for inspection, picking up speed instead.

Police gave chase and caught the suspects when their truck crashed into a street light, finding 20 foreign nationals without legal documents on board. Each of the foreign nationals had paid a fee to be transported to Athens. The truck had fake number plates and a second pair of number plates that also did not belong to the truck was discovered inside.
