The United States Navy’s “Carson City”, a spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport ship, docked at Syros island on Friday for a scheduled port visit.
In a tweet about the event, US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt thanked governor Giorgos Hatzimarkos for the region’s “strong support to the US-Greece alliance” and to the mayor of Syros Giorgos Marangos for welcoming the ship’s crew.
“I am grateful to Mayor Maragos for welcoming us to Syros. Having visited the island, I know our sailors will enjoy its unique beauty and the hospitality of the residents. We will look for opportunities for future visits,” the ambassador tweeted.
In a related message, the US Embassy tweeted, “We’re pleased to have USNS Carson City visiting Syros. It is a visible symbol of how we are deepening our military relationship with Greece, a pillar of stability in the region.”
