In a statement to Avghi newspaper Tzanakopoulos noted “We welcome US President Barack Obama to Greece on Tuesday. It is a visit that its importance exceeds the obvious symbolism. It is held at a crucial period for the negotiations on the Greek debt as well as for the refugees issue and the Cyprus issue. We believe that this visit will be constructive at many levels and will contribute in the promotion of a fair and viable solution for the Greek debt and in parallel it will confirm Greece’s role as a pillar of stability in a widely destabilised region.
