“There is a golden opportunity for Greece, which, as a member of NATO and the European Union and as a democratic country, constitutes a place of stability despite its problems,” main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister George Koumoutsakos said on Monday in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency’s radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM.
“We hope that this trip will bring specific, tangible and positive results for the country,” he underlined.
Koumoutsakos stressed that a long term, beneficial agreement with the US must now be built on Greece’s increased negotiating power. “We would ask for a long-term roadmap on all issues. From the economy to investments, energy, tourism, culture and security,” he stated, adding that this is the right time to ask for a long-term agreement on the Souda naval base on Crete.
