Greece’s largest public sector union -ADEDY- has decided on a 24-hour nationwide strike on Thursday to protest against a bill introducing new disciplinary rules for civil servants, which is in Parliament for debate and a vote.
The confederation representing public employees has also urged workers in Athens to join a rally in front of Parliament at Syntagma Square at 10 a.m., which is expected to cause traffic and transport disruptions.
Local chapters have announced similar demonstrations across the country.
The union denounces the government’s measure as “anti-labor”, saying they criminalize union activity, abolish the appeals process and remove worker representation from disciplinary boards and demand the withdraw of the bill.
