Price reduction on more than 2,000 product codes in supermarkets, launching the price reduction initiative introduced by the Ministry of Development, in which supermarkets and their suppliers are participating, was announced today, Wednesday October 15th, by the Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos.

According to data released by the ministry, the average price reduction that consumers will see on the shelves is around 8%. The initiative is expected to last at least until the end of the year.

It involves 1,074 codes related to food products and 1,106 codes from other product categories, with the total number “significantly exceeding” the initial target, as stated in the announcement by the Ministry of Development.

“This is a positive and necessary initiative that we want to expand even further. We continue our efforts, and as we have pledged, in the coming days the consultation for the new Independent Authority for Consumer Protection and Market Supervision will begin,” said Mr. Theodorikakos after his meeting with the General Director of the Hellenic Supermarket Association, Apostolos Petalas, who informed him that more than 2,000 product codes from retail companies and suppliers have joined the price reduction initiative.
