Panos Routsi, the father of one of the 57 victims in the 2023 Tempi train crash, has ended a 23-day hunger strike after prosecution authorities agreed to his demands for further forensic testing -not just DNA confirmation- on his son’s remains.

Mr. Routsi, whose 22-year-old son Denny was killed in the crash, had camped outside the Greek Parliament since September 15th, drowing national attention and solidarity from the public.

Yesterday, Tuesday October 7th, the Larissa prosecutor’s office announced it had accepted his request for new toxicological and biochemical examinations. The office also reopened a case file to investigate potential misconduct by the original coroners.

Standing beside his wife and former parliamentary speaker Zoe Konstantopoulou, Mr. Routsis announced the end of his strike to applause from supporters. “I want to thank everyone who stood by me for 23 days. We will continue our fight together” he said.
